a close-to-nature hideaway at the foot of the Pentland Hills, just a 20-minute drive from Edinburgh
location
Set within acres of secluded parkland attached to Glencorse House, the pods are each positioned to make the most of their lakefront setting while retaining much-needed privacy.
The Secret Hideaway is located a 20-minute drive south of Edinburgh in the grounds of a privately-owned country estate. You’ll have access to the lake and surrounding countryside at the foot of the Pentland Hills.
In close proximity are many walks, cycle rides and attractions, including a handful of local restaurants and cafes to enjoy during your stay. Just a short drive away you’ll find many more places to explore including the beaches of East Lothian, City of Edinburgh and the rolling countryside of The Scottish Borders.
Guests also have access to the private lake and the grounds that surround it. There is a small parking area by the lake for direct access to the wee lodges.
There is a bus stop (10 min walk) outside the Glencorse Golf Club with buses to Penicuik, Edinburgh, Straiton Retail Park and The Borders stopping fairly regularly. For best access and ease of getting around the local area we recommend guests have access to a car.
fresh air & fabulous walks
You’ll have ample walks around the Pentland Hills, including the Flotterstone Glen trail, Penicuik House, Rosslyn Chapel and many marked paths around Pentlands within easy reach.
We are more than happy to provide more information on nearby walks and point you in the right direction.
visit Glencorse Old Kirk
If you fancy stepping back in time, it’s worth asking Sarah to organise a tour of the Old Kirk, nestled in the grounds of the estate. It dates back to the 16th century and the famous Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson worshipped here and wrote about the Kirk and its woodland setting on a number of occasions.
What’s more, the Old Kirk even featured in the world-famous Outlander TV series, providing the setting for characters Claire and Jamie to tie the knot in season 1.
Access and tours of Glencorse Kirk can be made by prior appointment.
explore on two wheels
Cycling enthusiasts will be treated to tracks and trails that criss-cross the hills. You’ll be close enough to a choice of Pentland tracks, so you can leave the car behind.
time to unwind
At the end of each day, you’ll have your own Scandinavian hot tub under the stars to relax in. Enjoy a drink on your private lakeside veranda and while away the evening surrounded by nature.
